Biography
Qingfeng Li is a full professor in Department of Energy Conversion and Storage, Technical University of Denmark. He received his Ph.D. at Northeastern University of China in 1990 and was in 2006 awarded the Doctor of Technices in Denmark. He initialized the high temperature PEMFC research in Denmark and has coordinated/participated 7 EU and 25 Nordic research projects including a Danish-Chinese Centre on Proton Conducting Systems. For the time being Professor Li is leading a Danish research center focusing on fundamental research on mechanisms, materials, manufacturing and management of high temperature polymer fuel cells.
Abstract
The talk will start with a brief review of proton chemistry, conductivity and mechanisms, focusing on polymer membranes based on acid-base complexes. New insight is hypothesized to correlate the acid-base chemistry and proton conductivity mechanisms. An appropriate acidity matching between the acidic and basic components leads to formation of extensive hydrogen bond networks, which may in turn allow for the proton dynamics and hopping mechanism of the proton conductivity. Success and failure of the acid-base membranes are then discussed. New understanding of conducting mechanisms for phosphoric acid and its doped membranes will be updated. And the significance of the knowledge in operation and durability of for high temperature polymer membrane fuel cells will be finally presented.
