Biography
Dr. Sven Eckart is a mechanical engineer with a strong background in combustion technology. Since April 2015, Sven has been working as a research assistant at the Chair of Gas and Heat Technology at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Since April 2022, Sven has assumed the role of Head of Group Combustion Technology.

Abstract
Many, the European Union, and several international institutions have set a goal to produce carbon-neutral fuels using clean energy. Among the various approaches, hydrogen is considered to be particularly focused on, both ecologically and economically feasible, if the necessary concepts are available. However, there are ongoing efforts to develop safe methods for long-term storage and long-distance transportation of hydrogen, with pipeline systems similar to those used for natural gas being considered. In order to facilitate this, criteria for gas quality will need to be established. Furthermore, the impact of trace components in hydrogen on chemical and thermal aspects is not yet fully understood and requires more precise characterization. To gain a deeper understanding of these phenomena, this study presents a comprehensive analysis. Specifically, it investigates burning velocities, extinction strain rates, flame structure, temperature profile, and overall reactivity in small-scale flames. Subsequently, the findings are extended to near-industrial flames, focusing on non-premixed flames. The influence of hydrogen content in methane is clearly evident in the radial emissions, temperature, and exhaust gases. In theory, the large-scale burners could operate using up to 100% hydrogen.
