On April 15, 2021, the Signing Ceremony of RWTH Aachen - SJTU Student and Academic Exchange & Joint Innovation Center was held at the Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The ceremony was presided over by Luo Peng, Director of International Affairs Division of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Lin Zhongqin, SJTU President and CAE Academician, and Ulrich Rüdiger, President of RWTH Aachen University, delivered speeches respectively. On behalf of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai municipality and Shanghai Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Huang Hong expressed sincere congratulations on the establishment of the RWTH Aachen - SJTU Joint Innovation Center.

Later at the ceremony, Lin Zhongqin and Ulrich Rüdiger signed the agreement of Student and Academic Exchange on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and RWTH Aachen University, respectively. Wang Hao, Vice President of SJTU School of Mechanical Engineering, and Thomas Bergs, Director of Manufacturing Research Institute of RWTH Aachen University, signed the agreement of Joint Innovation Center. The ceremony was attended by guests from both sides.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University and RWTH Aachen university signed the first student exchange agreement in 2009 and renewed the agreement and memorandum in 2015, with an average of 5 students from both sides (mainly from schools of mechanical engineering) accepted to the program during an academic year. The establishment of RWTH Aachen - SJTU Joint Innovation Center is a new mode of at international level in the context of epidemic.
