On December 17, 2021, alumnus Wataru NATSU(夏恒)was elected into the Engineering Academy of Japan.
Dr. Wataru Natsu obtained his bachelor degree and master degree in Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), respectively in 1982 and 1987. He had served as a lecturer during December, 1988 and October, 1990 in SJTU. After obtaining his doctor degree in Mechanical Systems Engineering from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) in 1995, he had worked as a chief engineer, and then the deputy chief in the R&D division in a precision equipment manufacturer for 7 years. Dr. Natsu is currently a distinguished professor working in the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering and the Department of Industrial Technology and Innovation of TUAT. His research and teaching interests are in manufacturing and machining, shape measurement of semiconductor wafer, and management of technology (MOT). Dr. Natsu and his research group have made important theoretical and technological breakthroughs in the research on elucidation of the energy distribution in electrical discharge machining, realization of precise electrochemical machining through confining the electrolyte existing area, and solution for deformation of large-diameter silicon wafer in the shape measurement.
The Engineering Academy of Japan Inc. (EAJ) was established in 1987. EAJ is composed of leading experts from academia, industry, and government institutions who possess a wide range of knowledge and have made outstanding contributions in engineering and technological sciences, and closely related fields.
